17.1 Standards/Tips/Pointers
Alright everyone, we know the workout so now its time to get to work! Pacing is the key on this workout. Get into a good groove with both movements and try to stay consistent with your transitions, work, and rest.
Scaled athletes are able to step-up onto the box jump, while RX athletes are required to jump.
Here are a few judging standards that you need to keep in mind throughout the workout:
- Athletes must alternate arms after each DB Snatch repetition and may not alternate until a successful rep is achieved. This means if you get a no-rep on one side you must do a proper rep on that side before you move on.
- The non-lifting hand and arm may not be in contact with the body during the repetition.
- In the bottom position, to ensure the athlete remains perpendicular to the box on each rep, the center of the athlete’s chest must be on the line, and the feet and hands must be straddling the line.
- There is no requirement to stand tall while on top of the box. A two-foot takeoff is always required, and only the athlete’s feet may touch the box. The athlete may jump on top of the box using a two-foot landing and then jump or step off to the other side, or the athlete may jump completely over the box. If jumping over the box, the feet must go over the box, not around it, and the athlete must use a two-foot landing. (RX Athletes)

The 2017 CrossFit Games Open @ OV CrossFit!
Whether you compete for fun, to prove your fitness, to represent your affiliate, or all of the above, the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games Open is for you. Don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of this five-week online competition that unites the CrossFit community by bringing together hundreds of thousands of athletes in one all-inclusive competition.
The CrossFit Games Open will run February 23rd - March 27th with one workout being released each Thursday and scores due the following Monday. Scaled, Masters, and RX'd versions of each workout will be released making The Open inclusive and capable of all athletes, regardless of ability level.
Sign up for $20, do the workouts, enter your scores, and you will be ranked in relation to your peers in your age division, competition region, state and country. When registering please be sure to select OV CrossFit as both your Team and Affiliate!
For the first four weeks we will perform the workouts each Friday as a part of our scheduled 6am and 9am Daily WOD Classes. We will also host our very own "Friday Night Lights" each of these weeks running heats from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Show up during this time to complete the workout, help judge, or cheer on your fellow members!
We will celebrate the final week of The Open by completing Open WOD 17.5 as a community on Saturday - March 25th from 9:00am to 12:00pm, followed by a beer and pizza social.
Not currently a member of a licensed CrossFit Affiliate but want to compete in The Open? Drop-In to OV CrossFit each week throughout The Open to complete the workouts as a part of our community - $40 for all 5 Open Workouts!
We also encourage all athletes to complete The CrossFit Games Judges Course for an extra $10 in order to help judge and fully understand the standards required of all athletes.
